A supportive space for meditators
For those navigating a Meditative Crisis (MRC), our support group offers a vital holding space with peer support. Facilitated by a member of our dedicated Care Team, this group provides a moderated environment where you can connect with others who understand your experiences. Please note, this is a peer support forum, not a therapy group.
Frequently asked questions
Understanding what to expect can ease any anxieties about joining a new group. Here are some common questions about our support sessions and what makes our community unique.
What can I expect at a support group meeting?
Our meetings typically begin with warm welcomes and a gentle reminder of our agreed-upon guidelines to ensure a safe and respectful environment for everyone. New attendees will have a short opportunity to introduce themselves, followed by an open forum for sharing experiences and offering mutual support.
Purpose of the meeting:
-
emotional processing
-
meaning‑making
-
community
-
recovery
-
normalisation
-
reducing shame
How is this group different from other support options?
We recognise that many experiencing MRCs have previously faced distressing situations, including a lack of understanding or even misguidance from facilitators or teachers. Our group is specifically designed to counteract this; all experiences are accepted, validated, and received without judgment. You are free to express yourself openly, without fear of criticism, ostracisation, or gaslighting.
How do I join the support group?
To join our support group, please contact a member of our Care Team via email at [[email]]. They will provide you with an invitation and the necessary login details to access our sessions.
THIS FACILITY IS NOT YET AVAILABLE
Is there a cost to join the support group?
Our support group is offered free of charge to all meditators in distress. Our aim is to provide accessible peer support to those who need it most.
Accountability
We recognise that harmful teachers and organisations exist, and that naming them is sometimes necessary for accountability and safety. However, the support group is a space for emotional safety and healing, not investigation or exposure. For this reason, we do not name individuals or organisations during group sessions. If you need to report a specific teacher or organisation, we provide a separate confidential channel for that, and we fully support efforts toward transparency and reform.
Guidelines for Safe Support Group Experience
The Support Group is intended as a place of safety and release where all experiences are seen as valid and acceptable. To this end and to facilitate and protect this space, all attendees agree to the following:
- Confidentiality. The meditation world can be a surprisingly small place. Please do not identify by name or in any other way the identity of anyone you meet in the group to any outside person, organisation or other group.
- We are all experiencing our meditative journey in our own unique way, please respect that others POV may not be your own. You may find yourself in disagreement with someone's ideas, or they may have had a bad experience with a beloved group or individual known to you. It is not envisaged that members challenge each others experience or act in a way that indicates a lack of trust in their integrity and honesty.
- The group is a meeting space that is non-partisan and anti-discriminatory. Everyone is welcome and we encourage diversity. Whilst we accept that strong views and feelings concerning an individuals MRC experience with groups and individuals may be expressed, hate speech will not be tolerated.
- Participants will understand the need for self responsibility in relation to their needs. This group is not therapy nor is it a replacement for assistance from medical professionals or therapists, prescribed medication or other health related assistance.
- It is likely that 'triggering' experiences and information will be shared in the group. Please look after yourself if you should feel uncomfortable or start to become overwhelmed. Turn off audio or camera if needed, take a break, get up and move around. If you need to leave the group please let the facilitator know through pm in chat.
- In this group our aim is a focus on themes, impacts, needs, patterns, boundaries, and recovery. We do do not name names, nor do we recommend against individuals, organisations or services whom we deem in some way responsible for our MRC. (There is a need for this, but that is separate from the function of this group).
- Persons deemed to be under the influence of alcohol, illegal substances or are unable to abide by these guidelines may be asked to leave the group.
- In the UK, Safeguarding laws require that anyone who makes a statement of deliberate intentional harm to another person or persons or themselves, must be brought to the attention of the local Safeguarding Officer. This is the only occasion on which confidentiality can not be guaranteed by the facilitator.
